“Country music is the people's music. It speaks of the truth of what it is to be human and allows us to be authentic in sharing our heartache and tough times. It connects every generation; age isn't a barrier because the stories are universal. Country music speaks from the heart.”
— Jess Owen
Owen's music is Neo-Traditional Country. For music fans who like relatable storytelling performed with uninhibited honesty.
Nashville recording artist Jess Owen's unique voice has been described as 'warm honey'. A smooth, rich sound, with an unusually wide vocal range of more than four octaves, which lends itself well to honest storytelling. Owen has sung a wide range of genres including, blues, jazz, swing, big band, pop, honky tonk and of course country.

Born in Wales in the United Kingdom, the Nashville recording artist Jess Owen has performed live throughout major venues, including the International Wembley Country Music Festival. Due to the popularity of his recordings, Jess Owen has had highly successful appearances performing on European Sky Television, Independent Television Network (ITV) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Owen has also featured on South African General and Broadcasting TV. An appearance on the ‘Emest Tubb Midnite Jamboree’ show initially introduced him to America.
“To be born Welsh is to be born privileged, not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but music in your blood and poetry in your soul” - British Poet, Wilfred Wilson.
Talent runs deep in the veins of the Owen family. Jess Owen's Welsh parents were performers; his mother a singer and his father was a drama and elocution coach. Unbeknownst to his parents he secretly started singing live for audiences at the local cinema with a live professional pianist at the age of just 11 years old and won his first talent competition a year later. For as long as he can remember music is the oxygen that he breathes; it's in the blood that pumps through his veins. It means everything.
As a young man his love of entertaining knew no bounds as he successfully mastered the art of standup comedy, as a professional musical comedian. After which he dedicated his efforts solely to his first love, music. Interestingly there are hints of comedic elements in a few of his song tracks.
Jess Owen started as lead vocalist in swing and jazz in 'Freddie Garth's Big Band' (the 18-piece band, who also sung with chart topping Ruby Murray). However, his love of Country music inspired him to form the duo ‘Jess and Geoff’ and bands ‘Jess and The Gingerbread’ and ‘Jess Owen and The Caretakers’. He has also worked as a solo artist. Initially his winning appearance on a British TV talent show led to a recording contract with the well-renowned United Artists label.
He recently collaborated with the famous Abbey Road Studios to remaster some of his earliest work.
